杭州社区大学成立于2003年1月，是全国省会城市首家社区大学，与杭州广播电视大学为两块牌子一套班子，是一所以培养各类成人应用型人才和提供多层次、多规格、多形式的高等学历教育、非学历继续教育及各类培训的现代化开放大学。是杭州市政府确立的"杭州远程教育中心"、"杭州终身教育基地"，被中央电大批准的"中央广播电视大学继续教育基地"和"奥鹏远程教育杭州学习中心"。2004年5月，"杭州市市民学校"又在我校挂牌成立。实践证明，社区大学建在电大，是在校内构造学历、非学历"立交桥"的有益探索。
　　校本级现有翠苑、解放路、湘湖三个校区，教学用地160亩，校舍建筑面积68000平方米，固定资产总值九千多万元。学校拥有一批具有丰富远程教育教学经验的教师和技术人员，校本级现有在职教职工375人，其中专职教师和专业技术人员289人，具有高中级职称人员197人，另有外聘兼职教师100多人。目前，有在校各类学历生1.8万余人，各类非学历培训3万人次。
　　到目前为止，学历教育共开设了中央电大、省电大、清华大学（同方）网络教育、浙江大学远程教育、中国人民大学远程教育、西安交通大学远程教育、东南大学远程教育、上海外国语大学远程教育、四川大学网络教育等本、专科教育，以及高等教育自学考试助学等文科、理科、工科、经济、管理、医学、护理等学科100多个专业以及近百门自开课程。在举办成人高等学历教育的同时，学校还连续招收了16届普通专科生，共培养各类本、专科学历生近5万人。在职业技术教育和岗位培训方面，已形成了大类20多种，并与美国、印度、澳大利亚等国合作开展培训工作，共完成培训50余万人次。
　　2004年5月成立杭州市市民学校，紧紧围绕"构建终身教育体系、建设学习型城市"的总体目标，以提高市民的整体素质为目的，在全市范围内全面、系统的开展时事政治、社会公德、科普知识、法律法规、环境保护、文明言行等方面的教育培训。开设"电视讲坛"每月二期，在杭州电视台生活频道星期日上午9：30播出，讲课成员有杭州市委、市政府领导、杭州市精神文明建设讲师团成员、杭州社区大学等高校教师。2004年5月至2005年4月28日共播出二十一讲，主要内容有：市民普通话培训、市民日常英语培训和市民计算机基础应用培训。
　　在创建学习型城市、实现高等教育大众化的进程中，杭州社区大学立足于杭州经济建设和社会发展需要，本着"为广大市民提供社区教育服务"的宗旨，致力于现代远程开放教育建设，全面推广杭州市社区教育运行模式建设，朝着把杭州社区大学办成杭州市社区教育研究、运作、推广的中心而努力!

Brief Introduction to Hangzhou Community University

Hangzhou Community University was founded in January 2003（it was previously Hangzhou RTV University, which was founded in November 1978 and began enrollment in February 1979. It is now a modern open university that produces all sorts of talents and provides multi-levels, specifications and forms of higher education, continuing education and all kinds of training programs. The University was established by Hangzhou municipal government as “Hangzhou Remote Learning Center”, “Hangzhou Life-long Educat1ion Base”, and “Platform for Hangzhou Primary and Middle School Teachers’ Distance Learning”.

Located in the historical cultural and world famous tourist city Hangzhou, the university has its distinctive geographical features and convenient transport conditions. It has 3 campuses including Cuiyuan Campus, Jiefang Road Campus and Xianghu Campus as well as 7 affiliated schools in Xiaoshan, Yuhang , Fuyang, Linan, Tonglu, Jiande and Chunan. There are totally 783 staff members, of which full-time teachers numbered 492, and of which who possess intermediate or high professional qualifications totaled 346. The number of students of all kinds reaches almost 15, 000（full-time students 4788, undergraduates 4,530）, and other kinds of students 10, 000. The school covers an area of 264 hectares（main campus occupies 100 hectares）. It has a floor space of 109,032 square meters (the main campus covers 55, 897 square meters), and has a total of 317, 300 volumes of books, of which the main campus has 130, 000 volumes. The main campus and its affiliated schools all possess necessary facilities and lodgings of various kinds. It also has sound modernized teaching equipments, which strengthened its teaching and researching capacities.

During the past 2 decades, the university makes full use of advantages of modern teaching methods and further extends the degree of open education to meet the need of economic and social development. Despite the fact that the government invested a small portion, our school attains good teaching results. So far we are offering nearly 100 specialties including Liberal Arts, Economics and Science. We have also enrolled a total of 40,000 students of all kinds. Besides, we provide 110,000 people with professional technical education and post training, turning out a large number of capable talents for the provincial economic and social development.
